Sun safety and skin cancer awareness

Spending time outdoors is a great way to enjoy the summer, but it's important to protect your skin from the sun. Try to stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm, wear clothing that covers your skin, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and a 4-star UVA rating regularly. Sunburn increases your risk of developing skin cancer, so taking simple steps to stay protected can make a big difference.

NHS health checks

If you're aged 40 to 74, you may be eligible for a free NHS Health Check every five years. This simple 20-minute appointment can help identify your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and kidney disease before symptoms appear. During your appointment, we'll check your blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and lifestyle, and provide personalised advice to help you stay healthy. If you're eligible and haven't had a health check in the last five years, we'd encourage you to book an appointment.

Please remember

If you're unable to attend your appointment, let us know as soon as possible. In June alone, 16 NHS Health Check appointments were missed, resulting in over five hours of valuable nursing time being lost. By cancelling in advance, we can offer your appointment to another patient who needs it.

Update on the disabled parking spaces

Repairs to the damaged area of our building are now underway and are expected to be completed by the end of August. There should be no disruption to patients accessing our services during these works.

Our disabled parking bays will be reinstated and available for use again once the repairs have been completed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.

Our recent carers event and support available

On 11 June, we were delighted to welcome local carers to our Carers Week event at Burton Latimer Medical Centre. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with carers in our community and thank them for the invaluable support they provide every day. We were also pleased to be joined by Northamptonshire Carers, who shared information, advice and the wide range of support available for unpaid carers, including dedicated services for young carers.

If you look after a family member or friend who couldn't manage without your help, please let our team know and register as a carer with the practice so we can ensure you receive the support and information available to you.

And lastly, some positive feedback from our patients…

"The care provided by the medical staff has always been excellent. I think the new anima system is brilliant. Really easy to use. A much fairer way of ensuring appropriate medical care than the phone call lottery before. The responses I have had have been extremely quick, efficient and effective. Great job by all involved"

"On Monday I used the Anima system, within an hour I had a call from the GP followed by a quick trip to the Pharmacy to pick my prescription up. Very impressed, great service"
